Cambridge Centre for English Studies

Social Life

As important as your lessons are in improving your English, the real learning happens outside the classroom. Using English in "real life", away from the school building, is the key to developing and improving your language skills.

As such, the school ensures that there are plenty of social activities arranged so that you can use your English and meet other CCES students. Each week the social organiser puts up a list of the activities which are available for that week in the afternoon and evening.

Activities typically include:
· Tours of the Cambridge Colleges and the Fitzwilliam Museum
· Football and tennis tournaments
· Punting on the Cam
· Cycle rides to Grantchester for cream tea at 'The Orchard'
· Introduction to cricket
· Video Film making
· Cinema evenings
· Latin American Dance evenings
· and many more

In addition to the weekly activities' list, the social organiser, in both the Summer Period and the Academic Year Period, puts up a list of the excursions available at the weekends. These are typically trips to towns and cities in Great Britain, including Oxford and Windsor, London and Brighton. There are also trips to see West End Shows and even weekends in Paris and days out in Stonehenge!

All the tours are operated with a guide and a driver.
Students are collected in Cambridge and taken by coach to the destination, then returned to Cambridge in the evening. They are well organised and good value and you will meet students from lots of other language schools in Cambridge. The social organiser will give you more details on your arrival.
